Scott's story
Scott (55) was playing tennis two years ago when he had a heart attack.
"I got a pain in my chest when exerting myself in a number of rallies. It was mild and not as severe as I would have expected a heart attack to be. I assumed it was indigestion so continued playing."
"After I finished playing the match, I drove home. My wife who is a cardiac nurse thought I looked a bit grey so I explained about the chest pain. Luckily she called an ambulance and insisted on a 12 lead ECG. It showed signs of a heart attack so I was taken to hospital."
"The next day I had an angiogram which showed four of my arteries were 90% blocked. I went in for heart bypass surgery 10 days later."
Scott has a family history of heart disease with both of his parents having heart attacks in their 60's - his father's was fatal at the age of 74. The British Heart Foundation helped him a lot with his recovery by giving booklets on diet as part of his cardiac rehab programme.
Scott is now only on statins and aspirin and his blood pressure is now fine.
"After my cardiac rehab programme, I started a regular two sessions a week at the gym which I have continued since. Last year, I took part in the 4 day Inca Trail walk in Peru. I was the fittest in my party and raised £2,000 for the British Heart Foundation. I am now back playing tennis and am a regular golfer and I am fitter than before my heart attack."
In July 2008, Scott completed the 3 Yorkshire Peaks Challenge to raise money for charity. More bout BHF fundraising events.
